Public Forum on The Greening of Oxford
Publicity flyer for The Greening of Oxford
Select graduate students in the Institute of Environmental Studies (IES) will give a public update on "The Greening of Oxford" on March 25 at 7:00 PM in Boyd Hall, Room 107, on the Western Campus.
According to Dr. Sandra Woy-Hazelton, deputy director for academic affairs of the IES, the program will have two parts. The first will focus on meeting Oxford's goals for low impact development through "green infrastructure, such as environmentally sound ways of managing water and sewer distribution systems."
The second will focus on an inventory of Oxford's trees to provide data necessary for participation in a potential market for carbon credits. As Woy-Hazleton put it, "Trees serve as sinks which take carbon out of the atmosphere"; thus, calculating not only carbon emissions but also "carbon sequestration" by trees and forests is important in creating a healthy environment and a sustainable economy.
Program planners say the presentations will take about twenty minutes each with ample time for questions and discussion. Sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Oxford, the meeting is free and open to the public. Parking is available in the lot next to Boyd Hall.
